a 38 in a Levis isn't the same as a 38 in a Wrangler? Isn't 38 inches, 38 inches????/ What am I missin here.

Yes, you'd think 38 inches = 38 inches, but here's the thing w/ jeans: not all denim is the same. Some shrinks more than others. Some have more give or are more tightly woven. The other factor is how the jeans are cut which determines where they sit on the waist. Not to mention the different kinds of leg styles & fit types which can be more or less forgiving depending on the manufacturer. (i.e. loose fit vs. slim fit, Levi vs. Wrangler vs. A&F)
