If so does anyone know the fine for having blue license plate illumination?

Vehicle Code section 24601 requires that the rear license plate be illuminated by a WHITE light. The scheduled fine for violating that section (including penalty assessments) is $108. It does not go up upon repetition. Simply turning off a blue light would not work, since then the plate would not be illuminated at all. Having an illegal light gives any police officer grounds to pull you over. Why open yourself up to the hassle and fine? I don't think blue lights are so cool as to make it worth it. Do you?

You're technically not supposed to have anything that could distract other drivers, but will they enforce it? I doubt it. If they cop is having a bad day, yeah, and its like a 300 dollar fine. But see, you can rig it up to a toggle switch quite easily so the minute you see a cop, you flip the switch off.

It is $500 to $1000 last I knew. It goes up with EACH ticket you get. Yes it is STRICTLY enforced. Kind of sad, but you are more likely to get pulled over for that than you are for speeding.
