I have 2 male dwarf gouramis in a 10 gallon and one of them is constantly being attacked to the point where his tail has splits in it. I'm going to remove the Gourami that attacks and put him in the 20 gallon.

1st set up would include:

1 Dwarf Gourami
4-5 cory cats
6 hatchet fish
either 6 Harlequin Rasboras or 6 neon tetras

2nd set up would include:

1 dwarf gourami
3 cory cats

Tank divider

1 betta
3 cory cats

3rd set up would include:
Your ideas revolving around my dwarf gourami of course.

I like the first setup with Harlequin Rasboras. They are hardier than the Neons and more fun to watch. Tank dividers are very stressful if fish can see though them. The Betta and Gourami would spend a lot of time flaring at each other, and the divider might get knocked over, leading to an undivided tank...

You best option is the first. Lose the hatchet fish and get 8 to 12 harlequin rasboras without any neon tetras. Get at least 4 cory catfish. Pandas, peppered or bronze corys are my personal favorites. The link below has profiles on some of the fish I mentioned.

Are you planning on getting a 20 gallon tall or a 20 gallon long?
I'd go with option one minus the hatchetfish and add 2 more neon tetras. keep 4 corydoras.

I think the first set up would be the best option, but just try not to over populate your tank. Remember one inch of fish per gallon of water in your aquarium. This is a just a rule of thumb, of course, but not a bad one.

I like the first idea minus the hatchets and with a dozen or so rasboras.
