I had a bulb on the top of the cage, and a heating pad for underneath the cage.

They make under the tank heating pads that stick to the bottom of the tank. Place it at one end of the tank. Then use an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer with a probe end and tape the probe to the bottom inside the tank (the gecko won't mess with it). The temp should read 88-91F. If too hot, get a dimmer switch to plug the UTH into and adjust the temperature that way. The need belly heat in order to digest food--they do not need overhead heat or lights at all as they are nocturnal animals.

Use a undertank heater on just on side of the cage, this allows for a heat gradiant to occure and then the gecko can choice the best temp for itself. Dont bother with a UV or basking light as they are nocturnal and dont really benifit form them.
