Ammonia is constantly produced and eliminated in a tank. To check for the amount in your tank, you will need an ammonia test kit.

If you mean ammonia levels related tot he cycling of a new tank, check out the link below for some good info on how to handle it.

Ammonia doesn't occur, it is always there. To know how much ammonia there is, you have to have a test kit. Ammonia is a toxin released by fish in their waste. Beneficial bacteria break this down into less toxic materials until it becomes a nutrient that is usable for plants. Vacuuming your gravel weekly is a good way to keep ammonia levels low.

usually your tank water becomes a yellowish color.. you can go to your local pet store and get a ammonia test kit, and if the ammonia is too high, you can buy"ammonia lock" which gets rid of all the ammoina in the tank in seconds.
