It's mute compared to all the other tragedies, violations, and deaths that angry people in this country are already blaming them for, whether liberal or conservative.

You may try to peg me as liberal for that comment, though I have never stated a commitment to any party or view. I judge per "policy". However, my father spent 20 plus years in the military serving this country, and he is a stone-cold Republican, and he hates them too. He says Bush and Cheney are a disgrace to the Republican party and the work of Bush's father.

Your sarcastic joke, I would say, is in poor taste to those who lost their lives on that bridge, those who are conservative, and yes, to those who are liberal too. But, mostly to those who lost their lives and their families.

The government should have allocated money to fix these faulty bridges. A report in 1990 indicated the structure of this bridge was faulty. There are several other bridges in the US in the same shape. Also, several dams are on the verge of breaking. It is so frustrating that our government does not allocate the money to fix the dams and bridges which in the end causes the deaths of our own US citizens. Instead we spend billions of dollars overseas to fight an unjustified war or rebuilding Iraq. This is not a "party" specific question but government itself is to blame for ignoring the reports and fixing our own problems.

This isn't a 'lib' or 'con' argument; our crumbling infrastructures have been ignored for decades by our federal government because cowardly politicians don't want to bite the bullet and allocate the money.
The shameful thing is that our federal government can squander TRILLIONS of dollars on an unconstitutional, illegal, immoral and unjustified 'war' in Iraq without flinching. Yet they get nervous when they talk about spending a trillion or two on repairing, restoring, and renovating things in the United States such as bridges, levees and interstate highways, all of which are in deplorable disrepair. -RKO- 08/03/07

Nah, the problem of our nations crumbling infrastructure is the problem of all the presidents and congressmen of the past 30 years or so. Liberal or conservative, no one wants to spend the TRILLIONs of dollars it will take to properly update our roads, bridges and utility networks. However it must be noted against Bush; that if the Army Corp of Engineers wasn't busy dimantling mines in Iraq, they might be assisting with the recovery effort ;)
