I have a 2002 XR80R Honda and when I hit the gas real hard it starts to stall. It does it when its just idleing and it does it sometimes when I'm riding. I can't figure out what is causing this. Does anyone know?

Thanks

you may have dirt in the fuel bowl being picked up by the secondary jet , Repair by removing the drain cap screw under bowl, then remove one of the overflow houses and gently spray carb cleaner into the port. it will plush out any loose dirt. Also move the throddel while doing this in case any dirt may also be flush by the internal movement of the sleeve. This will work only if the loose dirt did not inter into the main jet stream

Check for dirt in the carburetor, you might have a small piece of dirt clogging the main or pilot het, if its full throttle then most likely main jet.

You should be able to simply loosen the two clamps, rotate the carburetor, remove the bottom bowl, and give a good cleaning with some carb-cleaner.

If you have had the bike awile and ride it pretty often and hard you may need a full body check up sometimes the belts and spark plugs just need replacing and make sure your putting the right gas and oil in it, did you alter it to increase speed cause usually thats when the bike gets f'd up..?

how long since you gave the bike a tune? you may also be idle speed is to slow and or fuel mixture is out a little.
give it a tune up and try again.

It sounds like a fuel problem to me, probably your fuel filter is clogged, if not that then it would probably be a clogged jet in your carb, they are pretty easy to take apart, take out the jet and clean it, i would say that will fix your problem.

Clean the air filter.
Adjust the valves.
Might be time for a top end rebuild - piston & rings.
Check the compression.
