I liked Nikki's "Spike Owen" and if you are set on Spike..hey 17 or not ...it's YOUR baby...name him Pinkie you feel it's appropriate...but give him at least one "normal'' name. That way if he really hates being called "spike" or "pinkie" he can rely on the middle name..."Owen" or "John." My youngest child has 3 names...and doesn't go by any of them...She perfers her nickname! And her full name is a nice "normal' traditional name!

You MUST realize that this child will have this name for the REST OF HIS LIFE.... people are going to probably make fun of the name SPIKE unless it is used NOT as a given name but a NICKNAME......I would bet that the FAMILY MEMBER with the name SPIKE ---it was not HIS given name either... if you want to HONOR that person, give your son the REAL first name of the man you knew as SPIKE... and just call him SPIKE as a nickname... oh and not to be a lecturer, but I AM old enough to be your grandmother----and I think 17 is a BIT TOO YOUNG to be someone's MOTHER.....!!!!! But, you already WILL be--but I do hope you will be much more careful so it doesn't happen again for quite some time.....babies are NOT fun little toys to be popping out with... they are HUMAN BEINGS and are VERY EXPENSIVE to raise and educate!!!!

If you are pregnant please think of adoption.
At 17 no one is mature enough to take on the responsibilty of raising another human being full time.

"Spike" is not a name a mature adult would give to their infant son. It is a "nick name" one gives to a person or an animal.
For those who don't know . Spike Lee's real name was Shelton Jackson.

A better name for a child would be something a little more acceptable in todays' society such as the name Joseph which you mentioned.

James Joseph
Joseph Michael

spike is more of a nickname, or a dog name. dont use it! or if you HAVE to use it, put it as the middle name. im also 17 and i understand that u want to honor a family member, but u dont want ur son to hate his own name and be teased. here are my ideas:
Joseph Spike
Jesse Spike
Brandon Spike
Charlie Spike
Aaron Spike
Michael Spike
Eric Spike
Theo Spike
Daniel Spike
Samuel Spike
Steven Spike

Hey morons - my best friend had a little girl four months before her 16th birthday. DO NOT ASSUME BECAUSE A YOUNG PERSON HAS A BABY THAT SHE'S A WHORE - bett90. She did not give her up for adoption, nor did she give up her education by dropping out of school, and she had very little help. She is now the marketing director for an advertising company. Of all my friends, she's the best mother to her children.... She and her husband run the house, not the other way around, and she actually disciplines her kids, not the half-****** job I see most parents doing..... telling them "no" 50 times, and then letting them do whatever they want anyway.

I am not suggesting that it'a a great idea to go out there and get knocked up as a teenager, but sometimes it does work out, and these young moms do manage....

Oh yeh - FYI she is married to the father of that baby (for 15 years now) and they have two more children.

I like the name Joseph Spike, it's a strong, masculine name.
You still give the honor to the family with a middle name, it's done all the time and would be easier on a child once school comes along.

Spike is a dog's name. Sorry. The kid will have a hard time in school with that name.

Did you consider adoption for this baby and your first baby? Especially since you were raped and the baby is a constant reminder of the rape. I hope you received counseling. And are you financially able to support both of your kids yourself or with assistance from the father of your second baby? You need to be financially responsible for both of your kids.

How about

Spike Beat Me Up Now Jones (or whatever your last name is).

Haha but seriously. I hope he forgives you for the lifetime of mistreatment, bullying and mental issues he will have because of the name you've given him.

And when he's an adult, who's going to willingly hire Spike?
Let's pretend Spike and John both have identical resumes, both are equally qualified for the job...who do you think will get hired? I guarantee it won't be Spike.

Spike and Joseph, to me, do not go together. I'd go with perhaps:

Spike Jordan
Spike Jayden or just,
Spike Jay

Good luck!
