OK so people say it's bad other say it doesn't hurt. My sleeping problems started when I had my old job. They'd make me stay till after midnight and i wouldn't get home till like 1am. Of course i didn't go right to bed. Sometimes i wouldn't go to bed at all! I decided to take something over the counter. I found this thing called SIMPLY SLEEP. I liked it, it's so mild no side effects at all that I noticed. I stated taking it every night though to sleep and I have been taking it for months even though I don't even work at that job anymore. Now if I skip it even one night I have a bad sleep and feel sick. I am probably addicted. I don't mind as long as it can't hurt me! I know people who take worse pills every single day! People in my family that have arthritis and they take tylonyol arthritis daily which is a very strong form of the drug! This is just the stuff like they put in dramamine (motion sickness meds). Am I really hurting myself if I keep taking it??

Any drug taken regularly has some form of dependency or "long term relationship" that builds up.

Dramamine is not a harmful drug, but should not be taken more than the recommended amount of time. Also, all medication is metabolised by the liver. Tylenol if taken in large doses, or small doses over and extended time causes liver damage.

Ween yourself of by cutting down the dosage over two weeks.

First cut off 1/4 of the pill, than half the pill, than the other quarter until you are not taking anything.

Use some other method to help you fall asleep. Such as a "Sleep CD". You can get these at Brookstones, Sharper Image and other stores, it helps your brainwaves go into a sleep state that keeps you sleeping all night.

Hope this helped. Good luck.

Simply Sleep Pills

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Well, not everything is permanent. In 5-6 years they might take "Simply Sleep" off the market.

The real danger is taking these pills every night so that you can hardly sleep without them. Humans are naturally built to be able to fall asleep on their own...I mean, we've done it for thousands of years. I don't see why you need a pill now.

Most medications go through our liver. Put enough stuff through your liver and it'll get sick. You know like alcoholics who have cirrhosis of the liver? Taking Tylenol every day isn't good for you. Any kind of medication you are taking without a doctor managing it for you can be dangerous. It's easy to believe that because it's over the counter, it's safe. Remember though, alcohol is over the counter too, and look at how many people die from that everyday!
BTW from what you've said, yes, you most likely are addicted. That is not ok. It's dangerous to your health.
Blessed Be

The fact that you skip one night, can't sleep and feel sick isn't a good sign; it basically means your body is dependent on that drug for sleep.

You may want to see a doctor about your sleep issues since it's possible that there are medical issues that are causing this. Or they may be other ways to handle your difficulty falling and/or staying asleep that don't require drugs.

Also, someone take an OTC drug for a diagnosed medical condition is a whole lot different than someone who is self-treating with no medical diagnosis.

Simply Sleep is only Diphenhydramine -- the same medicine as Benadryl. Here's a comprehensive website:
http://www.umm.edu/altmed/drugs/diphenhydramine-043500.htm
If you are taking the recommended dose, you should not be having any sort of withdrawal side-effects. It sounds to me as though your symptom is more a 'reverse placebo' effect, for lack of a better term. Evaluate why you have trouble sleeping (such as stress and anxiety vs. other medical conditions) and see if you can treat the cause, rather than the symptom.

FYI:
Tylenol Arthritis contains ONLY Acetaminophen (Tylenol);
while Tylenol PM contains BOTH Diphenhydramine and Acetaminophen. http://www.tylenol.com/
Acetaminophen is known to damage the live of taken at high doses for prolonged periods of time.

Dramamine is Dimenhydrinate, which is a similar drug to Diphenhydramine, but not exactly the same.

I just take a really large and powerful tilynol. Some of the different brands make me fall asleep, but My problems are much different. Try it though. Some tilinol says how powerful they are on the case, but the ones that are really powerful make you sleep. I took one before school one time for a stiff neck and It made me fall asleep in class.
