I though China wasn't a powerful country and always has economic problems. Now everyone talks about it as if it is super powerful and such. If so where did it get this power and how great is this country?

If there is one thing I have learned about China since I started living here as an ex pat from the USA, that nothing, and I mean nothing surprises me more about this country then its common sense.

In the last 20 years, through transparent planning, China has gone from an economic joke to world class.

Most of what the west is told about China is old news or based on assumptions because of that same news. China has changed so much in the last two decades that to make blanket statements of her without doing some serious research often ends up with a lot of egg on the reporters face. The reporters saving grace is long held beliefs. The disservice the reporters are doing is to China as well as America.

If reporters and the news was doing honest reporting of China they would also be asking and demanding some serious answers from our leadership of why we are falling further behind and have no plans for the future. All while they should be badgering our leadership of how China is succeeding and all we are doing is arguing about insignificant things that do not affect the vast majority of us.

A clear example is the Katrina fiasco. When China went through a series of devastating floods last year that destroyed thousands of homes they set a goal of replacing them by Feb of this year. These were typical brick and mortar homes. They met that goal. All this while the USA muddles around, caught in legal and rebuilding squabbles while ignoring the people who are in this mess. While allowing lawyers and big business to make huge profits while politicians line their re-election coffers by playing the blame game.

That is how the USA vs China does business and takes care of the people we're both sworn to protect.

Peace

Jim

Whats so great about China... is the unethical way in which they are rising to power and doing it in such a way that nobody else in the World would stop them. They have put everyone in a trap. I have nothing against China, but really they exploit their own people and have such a inhumane communalist regime that dictates what its citizens should and shouldnt do. Look at India on the other hand.... even with problems with poverty, over population and pollution... its still a democracy! I salute india for being so brave and approaching these problems in the right way.

They have 20% of the world's population -- are second or third in terms of total number of nuclear weapons -- at least second (if not first) in total military size -- and within the top five as far as total economic impact on global trade.

Not "great" -- but very significant by sheer volume

It has done nothing great since it became communist.

China is copying U.S. products and selling them at a less expensive price by devaluing their currency and pegging the currency to the U.S. dollar.
