All of the answerers who think China is evil obviously know very little about the country.
They're still developing, but they're leaning towards a government exactly like the United States. They worship everything American, and even structured their Congress like ours. The fact that they're still called "communist" is only because they financially support farmers to keep the cost of food down, and the government own a lot of the businesses.
The majors problem with China now are due to the 1 party system. When modern China first came to be around the turn of the 20th century, 2 different political parties developed, and Mao and the Communists eventually pushed the KMT (capitalists) to Taiwan. China will NOT invade Taiwan. They consider it part of the country. A more likely scenario would be that the KMT returns to the mainland (which they did for the first time in 50 years, just weeks ago), and eventually China will learn to play *peaceful* 2 party politics just like the good old USA. As it is now, with the government being 100% Communist Party, they are able to enact ridiculously fascist laws such as the 1 child law, and massive censorship to keep secret many of the horrible things they've done.
Keep in mind that China had little interaction with any of the West until the nineteenth century. They're still young and naive on the global politics playing field. Eventually, they will be made to be more responsible.
If nothing else, they will never go to war with the USA for risk of losing some of their most loved things: NBA, KFC, Nike, American pop music, American TV and movies, Zippos, McDonalds, Coke, Pepsi... the list goes on. If you look at it from inside the country, America already has plenty of control on China, simply from invading them with our corporate franchise culture.

Seriously communism is evil... why isnt anyone doing anything to stop China! The Chinese seem to be going their own way in politics by commiting crimes against humanity and the rest of the world remains mum just because they need China for Cheap imports!!! Also the Chinas Army is growing at an Alarming rate. China being a superpower means they will spread their inhumane and communalist ideology to the rest of the civilized world. They've even started to mess up with the poor African countries economies for their own greed. Thats another reason why you dont ever find Charitable institutions in China... theyre lack of Belief in God and Humanity. They should be made to pay for these crimes.

We trade with China because of Hong Kong. Hong Kong, until 2000, was a British Colony. Hong Kong is were the majority of the goods the US bought came from, if you think back you might remember seeing "Made In Hong Kong" labels. True, a lot of things did come from the rest of China, but the majority, Hong Kong.
China, the last Communist superpower in the world, is an enemy of the U.S. However, in our capitalist society, were we want it cheap-China is the place to go for goods...
However, between tainted pet and human food supply, and lead based painted toys-they're going to get cut off real quick.
Oh, on a side note China was good friends of ours during the Clinton Admin...They bought all of our debt, so we could have a surplus instead of a deficit.

China is kinda in between.
We don't like each other much but we each are trade dependent on the other.
If we invaded NK it'd be to take away their nukes. In that event China would actually do nothing because THEY don't want NK to have them either.
The US would probably be hurt more by a trade war. The cost of everything would rise....and we like our low cost goods. Certainly we'd enter a BAD recession.

That war would not be beneficial to either side. The U.S. would not have anywhere to buy all their goods from and China would lost its biggest customer. It would be economic suicide for both. Do you remember during the Cold War how the US and the USSR each had so many nukes each was scarred to use them out of fear of retaliation. It was mutually assured destruction. If the US and China went to war it would be mutually assured economic destruction.

It has been reported that China is continuing to build up its forces. It continues to abuse human rights in a flagrant fashion. It constantly bullies and threatens its neighbors in the Pacific. And interests in the U.S. continue to call for cooperation with this regime that is fundamentally opposed to everything America stands for; freedom, tolerance, democracy, and human rights.
They are a an atheist country and the people are not allow to have a Bible. Christian in China are being shot, decapitate and cook into pies daily. Their orphanages are full of baby girls left at the door steps ans they want a Boy child. Does this sound like good people to you?
China is the new evil empire of the world. They seek to take over Asia and the Pacific. They will challenge America's position as a superpower. There will be a war between the U.S. and China.
As for the Chinese people I don't think they are any better. As far as I care all Chinese are responsible for the communist staying in power. All of them are communist supporters. Why? If the Chinese people don't support the communist then why don't they stand up and revolt? Why do they let them stay in power? Why do they just stay at home and don't care? Why are they coming to YA to tell us how China is 'great'?'
They are EVIL! They are the the enemies of God! They are heathens! They are barbarians! They are commies!
WE WILL DESTROY THEM!!!!!!
In the name of freedom!

China is an ally, but not a very strong one.
It is like a friend who would stand up for you against a few people, but would stand against you and for any friend they had that you are not friendly to.
They have enough military that I would not want to piss them off, but I would also not kiss their ***. N. Korea is a menace and will have to be dealt with in the future unless Kim Jong Ill happens to die soon.

After WW2 the Chinese realized that the USA will bomb them next unless they developed their own nuclear program. Since then, the USA has ignored China and picked on much smaller and weaker targets for political and economic gain, never for humanitarian reasons. That explains the Ch-US relationship very clearly.

China would be best considered a competitor or rival of the US, not really an ally or an enemy.

China is America's number one enemy. Chinese leaders want America destroyed. They cannot be trusted. Nearly every treaty they make with any country has been broken.
Most Americans are not aware of what China is doing. China's recent statements (August 1st) about Taiwan rattled stock markets in Asia since China points missiles at Japan and South Korea.
If China attacks Taiwan, then the U.S. will have no other option but to attack China. Americans will die if China opens fires on Taiwan.
China has indicated that going to war is more important than its economy. That is why China is trying to hoard as much foreign cash as possible to help it survive a war.
China wants Iran to continue developing nuclear weapons so the U.S. will attack Iran. Mass murderer's Mao's military doctrine for Asia was to get America involved in as many wars as possible to weaken the U.S.. That doctrine is still used in China, for the last 50 years. (China lost over 1 million people while fighting Americans during the Korean War. China aided Vietnamese rebels. China got Russia to send new fighter jets to Venezuela).
