I posted two items, they're both clothes. And wasn't sure how the whole shipping thing works. I think i put priority mail lg. envelope. flat rate @ $4.60. Is that right? Or is there something cheaper? Are the bubble envelopes free? I ordered some flat rate shipping boxes, small & medium.
Advice please!

Thats about right.... BUT.. you also want to put some postage in there for your time and effort.

Bubblemailers are NOT free, but the USPS Priority Mailers ARE...

You've made the right choice for your shipping, dont second guess yourself....

Actually, you don't really have to state the shipping when listing an item. Sometime when you do that you can short yourself because shipping varies and the farther away you have to send something, the more it will be so you really can't predict. Even if you tack on a couple extra dollars, it may not cover it. Also, not every thing might fit in a flat rate envelope. I have sold on ebay for a few years now and I simply let the buyers ask what the shipping will be, which can be indicated for them to ask, on your selling page. I have a postal scale to weigh the item along with how it will be packaged, then go to usps.com and calculate it using the interested parties zip code, and you then let them know what the shipping is. Due to the resent postal rate hike, I found it too hard to predict a shipping price on an item. At times I let the buyer choose what is convenient for them.Hope this helped.....

Hey, just put like $6 for priority shipping, you can use the flat rate shipping cost so that you get a little extra money for shipping supplies and your time. If your doing the online printing and paying, just measure the box, get a scale out, plug in those numbers and it will show you how much it costs, pay, print the label and put it on the box. Or its much easier to go down to the post office and just pay for it there and drop it off, they do all the work for you. I am on ebay all day and am a big seller and buyer, I know how this stuff works, its by buisness

i been buying and selling on ebay for nearly 5 years now, you will find it easier if you download the Turbo Lister which makes it easier to list item to sell, especially if you are listing more than 1 item at a time, as you can make a template for all the general stuff like your payment details and postage etc then you just change the actual article, then you download them altogether at the end, as for the postage items , you can get a list of postage from Royal Mail website, or the post office have little documents with all price guides on, for most items of clothes, books, shoes etc i use a set of kitchen scales, then i round it up to the next price, to cover packing and time etc, for larger items i use my weighing scales, after doing it for some time you get to know how much things are roughly. Another tip is for sending out small packets you are better off buying some grey mail sacks ( i get mine on ebay, come in variety of sizes) as these weigh less than using jiffy bags, or reuse bags and envelopes that you receive your own parcels in.

What I do is place the item in its' shipping box, weight it, go to www.usps.com,enter your zip and calculate the postage.I take that amount and add in the cost of the listing and thats what I usually charge for shipping. I never ever send something priority because its too expensive.Parcel post is usually cheaper for clothing.

practice makes perfect. The more you sell you will learn from your mistakes.I did .When I started I under charged then I overcharged and finally got it right.I have no negative feedback.

I have written a tutorial that is very helpful to beginning ebayers, and it addresses shipping.
