I bought 4 fathead minnows today and I have them in a 20 gallon tank. I'm just wondering how big do they get to see if I need to buy a bigger tank.

A 20 gallon is more than enough space for these. I keep some in a smaller tank for feeders, and the largest I've had was about 3". These are just a color variation of a fathead minnow, so 5" would be the maximum, but I've never had any get near that size in an aquarium. The males will be slightly larger than the females, so expect 2-3 inches from most.

Fathead minnows (rosy reds) only get 2 inches. You can put 10 in there max. But that'd be pushing it. I recommend keeping well below the stocking level. 2 -5 more would look nice.

yea they dont usually get relly big, i did have a 5 incher one time, that was a full adult breeding male.

females will be smaller, but most of them will be around 3 inches.

4 in a 20 is fine, always better to be under stocked then over.

They are short-lived, usually two years tops and prolific breeders with a maximum length of around three inches.
