My husband is notorious for breaking agreements, and we tried the contract thing after a friend suggested it. It still did not help matters, because his excuse is that he forgot or did not mean to (both could be true). You cannot force an agreement on someone, and your situation sounds as if your partner does not agree whole-heatedly. You might need to renegotiate the terms and come to a better compromise, which you both can live with. I do not buy the mother reason - this made me laugh. It might help to know what the situation and agreement is to give you better advice, too. All the best!

sounds like a croc of something here. Momma is just a way out excuse for not entering the agreement. Any reason really doesnt matter here but I sure wouldnt enter into any type of agreement with this person. I would bet that door "B" has a huge part in this. Forget it

Gee Bob, What are you putting in writing? Are you making a prenuptial contract? Why would the other person need to bring Mom into a relationship. Written agreements between business partners is a must but between couples? This smacks of bullying and insecurity. Maybe you should rethink the need to write down and sign issues about a relationship until you can learn that real relationships have trust no matter the situation.

The Bible says when a man leaves his father and mother he cleaves to his wife, meaning SHE becomes #1.

The "promise" thing is just a ruse. They don't want to write it down because they're just stringing you along. And apparently you are falling for it. By the time they totally screw you, it'll be too late to fix.

B. An agreement should always be in writing. Momma is wrong.
