The laptop is an hp omnibook xe4500 and was connected to the power supply so the battery was not the problem, i also highly doubt it was a virus or anything of the sort as i run 3 antivirus programs whenever im on my laptop.

it could be 1 of 2 problems. either your cpu is going bad or your motherboard is dying.

Try powering it with a known-to-be-fully-charged battery to see if it behaves the same way. If it doesn't, maybe there's one or more bad connections in the power supply.

I rarely work with laptops so I'm not sure whether you use the power supply to charge the battery.

Try stopping all the programs that are running on the background. You might not see them, but they're actually running.

Go to start--> run-->type "msconfig" (without quotation signs)--> press ok(or enter)--> then go to the start-up option(the last one) and the disable all the programs you don't need. That makes you're coputer faster and also do the defragmentation and the clean-up at least one a week!

Hope it works!

It seems that your motherboard might have "went". Things that can cause this are:
Extreme Heat, water damage, being dropped, or just years of use. IF you purchased this laptop for under $900 I am sorry to say that HP laptops that are manufactured and sold under $900 are built to break right after their warranty ends. Sorry. If your laptop needs repair contact my company in Scottsburg, IN.

Yeah your motherboard might be dying or your battery overheated so take it out and put it back in.
