Tried a butterknife but it didn't work too well, the sticker is really stuck, for lack of a better description, and I don't want to damage the windshield, plus its on the lower side of the windshield, so access is a little tight. Any chemicals that I can apply that will soften it up?

A single edge razor knife in a holder will do the trick just fine.

Any auto store will have this, also Walmart and the like

Go to your local home improvement store (Lowe's, Home Depot) and they have solvents made to remove stickers. Just ask. It is around the Goo-Gone, but I don't remember the exact name.
