Ok, My mom and i was on our way home in the car, when outta nowhere this guy in a blue truck notices the broken headlights on the back of the car, and offers to fix it. My mom pulls over on the side of the road, and then they make a deal. The guy offers $200 to fix the car. Then he goes down to $150. Then when they say $175 they finally make the deal. He said that if he does not do a good job. He doesnt get paid. He followed us home and then he tries to fix it. When my mom was in the house to grab her checkbook. I went over to him to ask him some questions, does he do it as a business? Does he have a business card. He says no. No business card. nothing. I tell my mom it could be a scam. She won't listen. Then she goes off teaching me that you have to take chances in life. This kind of thing is not worth taking chances on

Is this a scam or Is it just me being paranoid.

What questions should i ask him next time i see him?

Is this a scam?I have a bad feeling about this.

If I were you I would be more worried about him now knowing where you live. Do you realize by showing him where you live he now knows where and who you live with. He could be scoping out your home to rob you at night. He could be a sex predator.
Yes i think it is a scam and you just got scammed. if your mom gives him a check or something he now has all that information. your mom sounds crazy. You only deal with reputable people these days. Did you think that he could have been spying on you and broke your mom's tail light on purpose...???//// Now you want to know what questions to act him?.. Are you crazy? Don't ask him anything stay far away from him.
Yes you have to take chances in life.. but not with some stranger who follows you back to your home. That is insane!

I've had several situations where people approached me to fix a truck I used to drive (there was a ding on one side and I refused to fix it since it was a work truck). I would say this is not a scam. Some people offer to help people all the time; there's no harm in that. On the other hand, I'd also say to trust your gut instinct. It sounds like your mother trusted him, and he did indeed work on the car. If everyone's happy in the end, what's the problem?

the only scam I can see is that he's charging out the @$$ to fix broken taillights. I can tell you for a fact that if you go to a parts store, they only cost a couple of bucks for two lights. and it only takes about 5 minutes to do it if you know what you're doing. so he was charging $35 a minute? I understand wanting to help someone and get money in return, but this was crap!

No, there are many homeless shelters across America. Unfortunately many homeless people choose to be that way. I know because I volunteer frequently at a local homeless shelter. But I would help him get up on his feet as long as he wasn't a nut. If he was, I would call social services and he would probably be taken in by some governmental agency for the mentally ill.

i think you have a better nose for a scam then your mother does,a few months ago this was on a talk show, this guy would take personal info and drain the bank account, tell you mom to check her checking account, she should have had someone she knows fix the problem, not some scam artist

well i am thinking if its scam you would not be giving him money you would get parts and he fix it and then you give him something if its done right there is no time for scam if he don't well you aren't out nothing. you do have to be careful but sometimes there are good people out there but 150 is way too much to fix it.

Did he fix the car? Did he use the right parts and do it right? If so, the only scam I see is that he digs your mom.

I have a bad feeling about it, too.
But maybe the guy just needs some money fast.

Not a smart move on your mom's part, but I hope it all turns out O.K. for everybody.

It sounds to me that you are much more level headed than your mother. This sounds very scary to me. This guy follows you home and she then trusts this total stranger to be alone with her child. I question if your mother needs her head examined. There is something totally wrong with this picture.
