The only way to prevent any more global warming is to do something yourself. Don't rely and/or expect others to simply snap their fingers and poof it's gone.

There are several steps to contribute:
Buy a hybrid car
Replace all appliances with EnergyStar products
Replace all lightbulbs with florescene ones (you know those spiral ones)
Insulate your building
Set your thermostat 5 degrees warmer in summer and 5 degrees cooler in winter
Wear more clothes instead of turning on the thermostat
Carpool!
Use Public Transportation more!
Recycle!
Use more paper and less plastic!

I agree that humans probably have an effect on this planet as far as the warming goes but i don't think we can give ourselves all the credit. We live in an ice age, yes, an ice age, it has been so for the last 5 million years. Normal for earth should be a rise in sea levels by about three hundred feet or so, and an atmosphere hotter by about ten degrees. Earth is usually warmer, but the planet's geology does not support a hot house climate at the present time, we have a large amount of land near the north pole and a continent at the south pole. So, I do think we need to cut down on our emissions for the sake of the near future, i mean it'd be a shame to kill off the other animals but this planet has been through far worse things than us. So even if earth warms up a degree or two, it won't last long, the geology doesn't support it.

Humans to understand that burning fossile energy (cole, oil, gas) must stop immediately. If you think that this is unrealistic, here is another solution. Get rid of most humans on this planet and let very few remain so they can continue their wasteful behaviour without impacting the ecological balance. Hmm, unrealistic too? Well, if we continue like we do today, mother earth has a solution to get rid of us... called global warming. Wait until the ice is molten in the Himalaya and no fresh water available in vast areas of this planet...

PS: Hybrid car is a joke. 40 mpg is not cutting it. 100% ethanol gas or bio diesel would be better since these are renewable resource. It takes the same amount of CO2 out of the air to grow the plant than released by burning it.

Global warming is in effect...the only thing we can do is reduce out contributions to it taking effect, like not burning as many fossil fuels and using as much energy and it will subside......................maybe................Even if humans were to completely dissappear from Earth, it would take about 100, 000 years for the carbon dioxide to reduce back down to pre-industrial levels.........Carbon Dioxide takes part in Global warming......But still, we CAN do something

The problem is that we're just hobbyists and geek tinkerers, not entrepreneurs with capital to get into it in a bigger way.

Burn as much fossil fuel as possible. When it has run out, we will be forced to find alternative, greener fuels.

That reminds me, I must turn on my patio heater.
