this problem first started a week ago. turned on the thing and it booted up fine to the log in screen. started to type the pwd and the screen went white, nothing would work, just a power light and a fan and dvd. but nothing else working;(
held power button for 10sec to turn off and tryed to boot again and the power light etc start to work but the screen stays blank no even a bios screen.. leave it a day and it'll swich on again only to do the same at some random point, i've got as far as being connected to the internet for it to white out.. and some times it get partway though booting to do the same.. i'm thinking it maybe the power supply/distro.i'm not that well versed with slaptops so unsure. battery seems fine and it even has this problem if connected direct to the charger. i haven't installed anything recently to cause this, and i'm fully firewalled/virus scannered. avast virus and fullytested at grp.com
any ideas will be greatfully received..

Hi. That sounds like a failing hinge cable which connects the LCD to the motherboard. Not too hard to fix if it is.

sounds very much like a hard ware issue rather than a soft ware one (not a virus). try connecting another moniter to the back of the laptop and then you will probably have to log in to tell the laptop to use the secondary monitor. if this still works when the laptops monitor goes blank then you have either got a lose connection or the screen is on its last legs (ive had similar happen). Take it back to the shop you got it from!! if its still under warrenty then they will fix it free of charge, if not you will have to pay. if both screens go blank at the same time then its probably something more serious, although try re-installing the screens drivers. probably wont do anything but might save you an expensive trip to the shop. If it turns out to be a problem with the graphics card and its not under warrenty you are looking at an entire new motherboard, would probably be cheaper to buy a new laptop

This could be the cosmos battery that controls the boot up and registry settings?, or the power supply failing or faulty connection to your screen. Try connecting via another monitor screen first to eliminate your screen connection. I hope that this helps.
