I am looking for a true performance truck, not a worker but a rider, half ton short bed, all other bells and whistles, preferably with the 4:10 gear in the rear. I enjoy being the stoplight bandit! as my father, who is deceased now was the GM of a pontiac, buick, gmc dealership, I no longer have access to the order criteria, by the way I am not a youngster by any means, just a individual that has had performance in his blood for almost his entire life, from drag cars--Bstock-- Bsports-- Dstock-- to E mp by switching manifolds, to the dirt tracks in a latemodel, three night a week racing, while going to college, working a fulltime job, and raising a family,, oh and I almost forgot one trip in an a-gas rail--in the 8's at about 160 at the time, along time ago, enough about me --- I want a new hot truck that is comparable--give me copo numbers, something off the beaten path, a oner if you will!!!!!

Unfortunately for us GM guys the (now discontinued) Lightning is the "hot truck". The SRT10 may still be in production, I'm not sure. The Silverado SS was a complete disappointment [nice going GM :( ].

Now, having said that, there are TONS of performance parts available for the new GM trucks and they will FLY once they're hopped up.

The Ram SRT10 is about as fast as a truck ever got. Thye were available with either a standard cab or a quad cab. the standard cab models had a six speed manual while the quad cab models had an auto. The Viper V10 had tons of power. The standard cab models were good for about 12-15 mpg on the highway. Hennessy had turbo charged SRT-10 Rams with over 800 hp. This truck was really the king of all sport trucks.

Ford also built the Lightning from 1999 to 2003. They were offered with a supercharged 5.4 and were a drag strip favorite. They ran high 13s stock, and were easily modified to run deep into the 12s with bolt ons. When Ford builds a supercharged engine, they built it right. The short block on the 5.4 was capable of handling 600 hp easily.

After the 454SS and Cyclones, GM never really had a performance truck. Yeah, they have the newer Silverado SS, but it is nothing like an SRT10 or a lightning.

I bet a new Silverado with a standard cab, two wheel drive, and a 5.3L V8 is probably quicker than a stock 454ss was.

Dodge still has a V10 w/ the Viper engine in it... The SRT10.

If your wanting that much power, I don't have the specs off the top of my head, but as a lover of Dodge, I'd have to say the SRT10 would be the way to go.

Ford Lightning is about the only other one I can think of. Altholugh I heard that Dodge had a truck with a fully tuned Viper V-10 in it. The Ford was supercharged 5.4L. good luck.
