Hate it.

Talking down is a tool adults use to make information simplistic for children.

Although, after 6 years of teaching and volunteering with children I do not recommend "talking down" to children.

Even they view it as insulting.

I find a Respecful tone with other persons to be my best communication tool.

Sure, I slip with the kids and go, "Now, Joey,....." but for the most part they know they can expect Respect from me.

This is the foundation I build on when I require something of them. I find it effective in all aspects of my interactions with other people.
(Excluding my own kids. For some reason, they're perfectly content just ignoring me.)

I find the technique of talking down to be ineffective and offensive any time it is used to replace effective communication.

No, he does not talk down to me.

Actually, the level on which we communicate is one of the amazing things about our relationship. We are best friends and lovers. It's quite intimate.

I think that constantly talking down leaves a gap in a relationship. It indicates a lack of respect for oneself and for one's partner.

It indicates that he is insecure allowing her beyond a certain intellectual point, and that anything past that point, threatens him.

My man is not threatened by my intelligence.

It's quite the turn on.

Any man in my life would never talk down to me as I don't appreciate such condescension. I don't find that very manly.
