from what has been stated Fox News is the reason people think terrorists came from Iraq difference knownbut thing which can puzzle a person is that there is also a movie brand or movie company called Twentieth Century Fox Corp. a person can wonder if what has been seen is just more entertainment out of an entertainmen corporation. Fox News ,Fox entertainment. difference known about Afghanistan but terrorists said to have come from there and a war was started with Iraq first. then another with Afghaniatan and two separate wars are occuring in two separate places yes. Central Asia for one and The Middle East For The Other.

Are you saying that our founding fathers were opposed to Public Education? REALLY?! "it is better for the poorer classes to have the aid of the richer by a general tax on property, than that every parent should provide at his own expence for the education of his children, it is certain that every Class is interested in establishments which give to the human mind its highest improvements, and to every Country its truest and most durable celebrity" James Madison; from letter to W. T. Barry (Aug. 4, 1822)

We are still a great country and we should really live up to that more. We as the citizens of this nation do have the right to change what is going on, the election, last November is a sign of our power. We need to be aware as a people what is really going on and if those in power won't make it right, then we must put new people in power who will make it right.
I don't like what is going on with the current administration, but in some other countries, we would both be locked up for this conversation.... wait there's someone at my door.
We have been blessed with tremendous natural resources including the largest freshwater source in the world. The diversity of our population adds to our strength. We have taken things for granted.
I don't believe you are too young to vote, but if so, then it falls to you and your generation to make things right; as our national problems are going to take years to solve. Each of us needs to take responsibility to know what is going on and to at the very least register to vote. And vote for who you think can bring the change we need. This is the greatest country in the history of the world. It's past time we act like it. We are a part of this world, not above it.

Just because there are people who choose not to take advantage of the educational opportunities available to them does not necessarily mean that the educational system, in totality, "sucks". Many of the worlds top schools are located here in the US. Polls, rankings and surveys are not the best source for factual information.
As for our political system, while it may have it's problems, complaining about them will not change anything. If you do not agree with how things are done, get off your butt and work for the changes you desire. Furthermore, do not use age as an excuse, I have been active in politics since high school.

Well, what I've learned about the Latin American people who do travel North is that their focus is on the financial aspect, that is higher wages than they would make in their own Country. Wars have crippled the economy in these Latin American Countries, therefore many people are looking for other ways of survival. Yes you are young and yet you are able to have your own opinion on things.
Peace.

The education system doesn't fail the students; rather, many students refuse to learn information and don't want to excel at academics.
I don't doubt that there are many students here who need to learn a few more things, but the study you cite was conducted by UNICEF, a subset of the UN, and it is the unwritten goal of the UN to hinder the United States if at all possible. After all, it is an organization made up of member nations, many of whom are envious of our position in the world.

I think some of the answers you are receiving prove your point. Having the audacity to point out things which are wrong in our country have a way of making you un-American to some in our country. In our race to the bottom, pointing out our failures is not a very popular thing to do.

I wonder if the literacy rate would go up if we made English the official language and required people to learn it.
The top 3 in that survey are generally one-language countries.
EDIT - Oh, wait a sec.. .UNICEF - part of the UN... there's objectivity for you.
If it sucks so bad, why do so many Mexicans keep immigrating?

because they dont live here to see how crappy the public and citizen services are. America is a good country for oppurtunity, if you are an illegal alien. they get more access to citizen benefits than citizens. While I love this country and would fight for her to survive, I do know we need to get organized and fix education, healthcare, and so on.
