It is definitely a sick movie. It challenges and affronts our moral and personal sensibilities. It asks us to both hate Alex and sympathize with him. I personally think it is both a hard movie to watch and a movie that is absolutely brilliant!! It's aesthetic (not thematic) qualities (not to mention Malcolm McDowell's acting, superb) are beautiful and something all directors should be aware of, but yes, seeing scenes of "ultra violence," rape, and torture is just ugly...I think it's meant to be that way...how else are we to serious think about the issue of morality and free will. I like it so much I'm using it in my college class this Fall!

PS Related question: would you rather people make moral choices freely (i.e. with intention and understanding) or would you rather we police and force them? Great question!

I just saw that movie for the first time a few months ago.

Yes, I thought it was sick and shocking, but it was supposed to be about an ugly future time. The experiment in removing the violent nature from the prisoner just demonstrated that sometimes the right thing to do is not the moral thing.

Sick in a good way, for classic works like that you need to read the books first then watch the movie. it would be the same if you watched Lord of the Flies and the read the book, it would ruin it for you because books are always better than the movies

It was sick for it's time, but it is no where near as sick as the movies that are out now.

Have you seen House of 1000 corpses? That movie made me break out the bible and ask for forgiveness.

It was demented, but that's what it intends to show. It's not near as sick as some of the other movies to date....Hostel, The Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw, Saw, etc.

I have always wondered about that movie. I have never really like Kubrick films, but this one keeps popping up for movies I need to see according to Yahoo.

That movie was seriously gross. The violent rape scenes and near pedophilia was definitely in bad taste. I am no prude but I don't need a movie to tell me that stuff is wrong by shoving it in my face.

I don't know if I would call it "sick"...
I would call it odd and strange though.
It's a Stanley Kubrick movie, what were you expecting?

If you do like odd movies like that, I recommend any one of his movies, or Velvet Goldmine.

It was certainly out there. But it's one of my favorites. I especially like it when I'm feasting on gollumpchups of steaky wake and eggy weggs.
