The "stretch" (the length of transition to vert) is the key. Most quarter pipes with a short stretch do not go completely vertical. A longer stretch on a q.p. allows for greater vertical acceleration. A double skin of quarter inch plywood over a 2 x 4 frame is the easiest and cheapest method. Plexiglass is a more expensive (but much smoother, not to mention cooler) way to go for a skin. May I suggest boosting "spare" lumber from new housing construction sites?
