continue to visit there and keep a military prescence. Why don't we pull our bases out and have our soldiers watch our borders, etc. After seeing all the anti-american postings here, it makes sense to me. If they don't want us, why be there?

cutsie is a prime example of what I mean. I don't know how Americans have acted around her, but when I went to Europe our group was polite and respectful. I wish I could say the same for the Europeans that visit here.
We need to just pull out and let the bases go.

Almost seems like they are reverting back to pre WWII feelings. Looks like we'll have to come bail them out yet again when they come to their senses and are being overrun. Wish they weren't always so socialist....

The reason why the US don't pull out of these countries is because they need foreigners! They need to stay there so that their corporate interests can continue to operate their exploitation of foreign lands - that is what makes America "great" and that is why they are disliked.
It never ceases to amaze me. The arrogant idea that most Americans seem to subscribe to is that it is somehow OK to barge into someone else's country and do whatever they like and then expect the people of that country to bow down and adore the US. If American people were a little better informed about exactly what Americans do in other countries maybe they would have a better understanding of their foreign policy.
If the US were a little more respectful of the people and the governments of the countries that they foist themselves on maybe relations between the people of these countries would be better. If American people were not so derisory of people from other countries maybe there would be better relations between people. If the US behaved better in foreign lands maybe there would not be so much anti-American feeling abroad. If the US didn't say one thing and then do another maybe the US would be more trusted in foreign lands.
Why do you expect people to 'love' America? Who decided that the US knows what's best for every other country in the world? Why, oh why do the American people not only think, but expect that all other people from every land on earth will believe the nonsense that is put out by your own propagandists.

I totally agree with John R.
However because of this dumbasss redneck, Europeans are upset with unilateralism in American Foreign Policy. With ridiculous comments like, "Either your're with us or you're against us", dubya has lost many friends and made a lot of enemies!
What does he know about international diplomacy or foreign relations? American Image around the world has been badly damaged due to dubya's insensible policies and then when he gets stuck, then he starts begging for money...and there is nobody to help him!
Lets face the fact...who's left in Iraq? Us and the Brits. And the Brits are only in Southern parts where its a huge Shia majority and not much action so it's our guys who are paying the price with their lives!
Eurpoean and International relations can and will be improved, just wait for 09...we'll fix America's Biggest Mistake in Nov 08 and 09 will bring a better and stronger America with more friends and less enemies!
Democrats for 2008!!!

America has always had an odd relationship with Europe. Europeans have always dispised Americans as the uncultured louts we are, while Americans have always dispised Europeans as the stuck up twits that they are. Yet, Europeans have long admired - and benefitted from - America's economic vitality (and, occassionaly, military strength), while Americans have always admired Europe's sophisticated cultures and long history.
So, it's always been love-hate, and probably always will be. At least, until either or both societies collapse.

different Europeans shouldn't carry any undesirable feeling in the direction of us for sticking up for our own u . s . a .. We in eire are somewhat biting off extra beneficial than we can bite via balloting sure, we can drop an significant volume of potential and self sufficiency. people who're going to strengthen an opinion people could first see the whole image from our element. If we vote NO, the different eu international places could understand our decision.

Those Europeans are way too sneaky to be left alone. Look what happened with Columbus; We had no one in Europe watching them and the next thing you know North and South America are swarming with Europeans. Who knows what those sly Swiss, devious Danes and tricky Turks are up to?

I think the first answer is close to the truth. The current administration has ruined America's reputation. I think having a president like Mr. bush makes Americans look gullible, to the rest of the world. If only they knew...

Strange, I know quite a few people from Europe and none of them hate us. You're hanging around the wrong web sites. :)

They don't hate us. Only our current leader who has isolated us around the world.
You don't throw away diplomacy because the world's worst diplomat is occupying the White House. You just put it on hold.
