Your house won't cool if your fan isn't running. Make sure power is off and then manually spin the fan. if it doe's not spin freely the fan motor is locked up and needs to be replaced.

I presume the furnace fan is not running when you say you put the fan on but it is not running. If this is what you meant, the furnace fan motor may have failed. This needs to be checked.

You then say the a.c. has been running for 2 - 3 hours but the house is not cold enough. Is the furnace fan moving cold air? If so then the furnace fan you claim was not working is working so I am clearly unable to understand what you are actually saying.

If the house is not cold enough but the furnace fan is running and the "ac is running" is the compressor and the exterior compressor fan running or is only the exterior compressor fan running? The compressor motor may have failed and this needs to be checked out as it could be the capacitor or the motor. Further, all of the above may be working but the refrigerant may be low and this needs to be filled by a service person.

Clearly from your description there are way too many variables for me to provide clearer directions. I suggest you check out all the thngs mentioned above and eliminate some of the potential problems so we can get to the root cause of the failure.

Finally if you are having a substantial heat wave, it could be that your unit is working to its limit and the extremes of the weather makes you feel it is under performing.

You need to turn off the a/c unit and call a repairman before the compresor is damaged.

first check to make sure it is ventilating properly, if not this could be why your house is not cooling off if it is veting properly then your coolant line is either clogged or broken...try to find a new one where you purchased the equipment and if not try ace hardware, sears, home depot, lowes....somewhere like that.
