I just did a report on the Ralph Engelstad Areana in Grand Forks, ND and i found out that in the will of Ralph Engelstad, the man who paid for the arena, he said that if the University of North Dakota changed thier Mascot from the fighting Sioux that they would haft to tear down the arena. I think it was a great thing to put in his will they should not haft to change thier mascot. If they haft to change thier name because they are fueling the sterotype that Native Americans are savages then the Yankees should haft to change thier name because they are fueling the sterotype that americans are rich stuck up bastards

This is not an issue. The Engelstad family trust OWNS the arena and leases it to the University. If the University changes their mascot as per NCAA requirements, the arena needs to make no changes.

By the way...did you ever meet Ralph? I can honestly say he is one of my least favourite people. People either loved him or hated him....I was in the hate category

I agree...Illinois just lost its mascot...the native americans didn't even complain about it, it was the white people who decided they needed to be politically correct about it, either that or they feel bad for what tey did to the indians years ago, and are trying to make it better...last time I checked bringing a race of people to the brink of extinction is genocide, and completely inexcusable, let alone impossible to make up for. If they ever tried to change the Braves mascot, I will personally fly to wherever's need and knock some serious sense into whoever made that decision...may that never be so...Long live the Tomahawk Chop!!!!

Definately hope the Sioux win...I'm a huge fan of Zach Parise and Travis Zajac, two ex-Sioux players on the Devils.

I'm beyond tired of all this mascot crap. no REAL SKIN that i know gives two rat turds about it. I dance pow wow , and I gota tell ya, if the drummers aint wearing cleveland hats, it's Redskins hats (have one myself). I've even seen these logo's on Regalia (dance clothes) BEADED even.

If it's got a picture of a Indian on it , a Skin will wear it!
Most of us don't have the time to worry about little BS like that, we're more concerned with things that matter. Protecting our culture, TEACHING our children our ways, Fixing grandma's roof, etc.

I have noticed though, it's not even SKINS complaining about the mascots, it's white people!

I'm sure they THINK they're helping, but they don't even ASK us first!

Remember that whole Crayola thing? "indian Red" by time I found out about it, they forced crayola to kill it. I was all excited for a minute, "we finally got a crayon!" then I found out it was supposed to be the color of the dirt in india. . .

I say to them "you wanna help!!?? PICK UP A DAMN HAMMER, Fix a porch, fix a roof. DO something that MATTERS

A great hockey program, with a great name and mascot. They better not change a thing! I played D-1 hockey and still give them a ton of respect!
