If you have a few more bucks to spend, the Metropolitan Cafe has good food, an eclectic menu, and great bar drinks!

Citrus has very good food, but it's BYO.

For Sushi, I'd say Sushi by Kazu on Route 9 South in Howell -- but he's still on vacation in Japan. Try it in about a month or so... it's also BYO.
The Portuguese place is just about across the street from the Sushi restaurant, and both are just south of The Ivy League, which is basically the same as the Chapter House (http://www.njinnkeepers.com/chaphome.htm ). They used to have the same owners, but I hear they split the 4 restaurants in a divorce settlement. I haven't been to either in a while.

If you go towards Howell, there is a delightful wee Portuguese place on Route 9 North - not far from K-Mart if I remember rightly, but on the opposite side of the road. I just wish I could remember its name! It's a tiny place and if you blink you'll miss it. You have to bring your own alcohol. Its quiet and family-run.
If you're looking for something lively but with good food, how about the Chapter House, also towards Howell, but on Route 9 South? If you like Prime Rib you will love this place.
Both places are either similar price to Chili's/Fridays/Applebees or a few dollars more, depending on what you order.

mickie d's or white castle... definitely. if you don't like either, you can always whip something up with a butcher knife and a rifle. that always does the trick.
