What type of filter? I would only use a sponge filter with an airstone so the bubble nest isn't disturbed. The sponge also collects microscopic organisms for the baby fish to eat, if you set it up in an established tank ahead of time.

Also, you only want light flow for the fry - they aren't the best of swimmers.

only a sponge filter is realy safe for betta fry.

no, for breeding and raising young fry, they like little to no water movement.

The sponge filter should be on when they are 3 weeks old.;

Its not really neccessary until they get older. They may get caught in it.
