Get the Aquaclear 50. You can reuse the sponge filter, it comes with bio-rocks, and you can buy carbon in bulk and get reusable baggies for the carbon. Buying carbon in bulk is much cheaper and your filter will be much more effective. You will need to go to a pet store to get it or go online, but worth it.

I, too, have a 29 gallon aquarium, and I use a Penguin Power Filter, Model 150. I started with a different kind (one that came in the "kit" with the tank, etc), but after about 5 months, it didn't work too well. So, I changed to this one, and I'm very happy with it. The intake tube has two openings...one at the bottom and one midway up, so you can filter in two levels of the water. It's made by Marineland, and has a biowheel inpeller. Hope this works for you.......

I personally like AquaClears. You can re - use the sponge and only have to replace the carbon. You can adjust the flow rate on it. I'd suggest the 50 model because the 30 would be the absolute minimum.
