My friend lives with his girlfriend and they have a dog. Actually, it is her dog. My friend has brought up on several occasions, at least five or six times, how he has beaten the dog severly. He said he beat it in the head so badly that the whites of it's eyes turned red. He is constantly talking about how much he hates the dog. He said one time he beat it so bad that it started vomitting and convulsing. I've been to his house more than a few times, and the dog is always in a crate(pen) and I'm not sure if they even play with it or take it for walks. It makes me sick to hear how he beats the dog and I want to tell him if you don't like the dog, give it up but I know he'll say it's his girlfriend's dog not his and that she doesn't want to give it up. I don't want him to know that I ratted him out. But there are reasons there are laws against animal cruelty. Should I report him? I feel so bad for that dog, and it eats me up inside whenever I think about it.

Due to the overwhelming response, I am going to suck it up and just report him. You are all right. And I should be proud to stand up and admit that I reported him.

ya you need to suck the hell up. your friend is a very sick sick man. if hes that much of a coward to hit a innocent dog you need to do something as a man. you should call the SPCA or anyone police etc and they will keep your name anonymous. well good luck and ill pray for the poor dog

Absolutely! You should report him, no matter what. It doesn't matter if he's your friend or not, dogs don't deserve any harm. I mean, why would he do that to his girlfriend's dog? The only people who would abuse their pets are people who are brutal and heartless. I've heard people say many excuses to protect themselves from getting in trouble. I've noticed on Yahoo! Answers that people have been confessing their terrible acts towards abusing their pet, and they mention these pathetic excuses saying that it's not their fault and they don't mean to hurt it. Obviousely, they don't understand how much pain that animal has to go through, every single day because of neglect and abuse. Talk to your friend. Tell him that it's not right, and if he doesn't listen to you and continues hurting his girlfriend's dog, turn him in immediately. I understand he is your friend, but for the fact that he's harming a dog isn't the case. The case here is that he's abusing his GIRLFRIEND'S dog, and if I were your friend's girlfriend, I wouldn't allow it and I'd talk some sense into him. It's just not right to hurt a dog. I, absolutely, understand the condition you are in, and you're right. You're absolutely, positively correct. Reporting your friend in for animal abuse is the best thing you'll be doing for the dog. Reading about this makes me feel so terrible, and not only about your friend's girlfriend's dog, but other dogs who are treated badly, or even WORSE! I'll give you an idea, so you can deal with this problem absolutely and quickly. Why not calling ASPCA? They all fight for animal freedom, they'll help you out, help the dog, and contact the police.

this is very very bad talk to him about it if you feel brave enough maybe threat him to report him if keeps on going like this, tell his girlfriend if you think it's all apropriate and if this does not work you can report him. there are two ways.
1. report it anonymously, tell them you are sure of it but you do not feel confident for your friend to know (if you are worried about this)
2. report it and be proud of it (if you are not bothered if your mate knows or not!)
this dog will be on your mind allways and it will haunt you forever if your friend will get out of control and kill the poor thing!
you should know that even a small bruise that is left untreated can become a tumour so this might not be so hard at all!
animal cruelty is a crime! and if you keep quiet you are responsible for it as much as the owners! take the matters into your hands and do something about it!
p.s if your friend is brutal make sure you do not do this alone, because people even if they do not mean it they can hurt someone very badly just because they grassed on them and gave them problems!

This is so tough, but I would call your local animal control or humane society. You can file an anonymous report in most cases or atleast find out what kind of proof they would need in order to seize the dog, & take it from there. Personality types that do this sort of thing are typically abusive to weaker people and children as well. I would never consider someone like that a friend, you seem like a good person. Sometimes the weak need a person to interceed on their behalf. Does his girlfriend know he beats her dog? Or does he beat her too?

Maybe you should talk to your friend and tell him how you feel about it. If he doesn't like the dog he could just ignore it instead of beating it up. You should also tell him that it is against the law to treat a dog like this and that he might get reported or even fined for it. Maybe it will wake him up. I know that I would not accept this behavior towards an animal from one of my friends.

Yes you should.Call your local shelter and police department ,they will let you know what you and they will do.Please don't wait.I work in a shelter and I've seen some pretty horrible things.Abuse of animals leads to abuse of children. That dog doesn't deserve to be treated like that and certainly not to be crated day in and day out.Very sad to hear this.......

I would have reported him when he first started talking about it. All you have to do it report it to the police (but they will ask your name). They usually don't give it though.
You can also call the anti cruelty society.
Please do this, no animal should have to go thru this. I bet its really sweet too.
Why doesn't the gf do anything?

OMG -- Absolutely -- to have the nerve to do that and then brag about it.
If you don't want to report him -- I will! I will also gladly provide a good home for the dog too.
