right away. The one I planted this year got about 10 inches long and if I didn't get them quick enough, got about 3-4 inches around . What kind can I plant that will stay slender even if I 'm a little late picking them?

Go to a nursery, not a gardening center, and ask them for the smallest sized cucumbers that grow in your area. Let them know your problem.

Rather than going for a small variety, I'd simply plant fewer vines. One or two vines is generally enough for anybody, and that way you won't feel pressured to pick them all the time :-)

Burpless cucumber will stay slim for quite a while, but will start to fatten up if left for a long time.
