Keep in mind that the 5mb is just for data transfer. If you loaded up a page and kept it on your phone for an hour and did not get any data updates you would not get charged any more.

keep this in mind, Cingular's Edge network provides nationwide coverage at average data speeds between 75 Kbps and 135 Kbps..

first, there are 8 bits in 1 byte, so:
5 MB * 1,000,000 bytes * 8 bits => roughly 40,000,000 bits
= 40,000 kilobits

if you stream media with a speed of 75 Kilobits/sec:
40,000/75 = 533.33 seconds

533.33 seconds / 60 = 8.88 minutes

That's it.. that's all you get.. 8.88 minutes to achieve 5MB of data transfer..
