My mother passed away a couple of weeks ago. I am not a supertitious person but I wonder why butterflies were always present during and after my mother's funeral.

Butterflies are symbolic- when butterflies flutter within your surroundings, more noticably than usual, it is a spirit of a loved one trying to let you know they are here in your presence. Talk to mom-she hears you and see's you. As for us, imagine us blind without any vision- if you could not see those you love, or your friends but you felt their presence or knew they were with you- would you stop talking to them or loving them? This is no different.
Here is a link to an ADC site that helped me because I used to have many ADC's (after death communications) skeptic as I am I have had numerous experiences since childhood and this site helped me better understand what these symbols or signs mean, and why we get them.

Many hugs- mom is there with you- talk to her- she is letting you know that she is okay now.

PS: my condolences to you, but for her this is a celebration- and she is letting you know in her own way just that!

I worked with butterflies for a little while. In the greek mythology, when a person died, a butterfly resembled the soul going to the afterlife. In the middle ages, this belief carried on, and a butterfly was often carved on tombstones to help the soul find the butterfly or transform into the butterfly that would take the soul to a better place.

I noticed more white butterflies as well when my mother passed away. I am very very sorry for your loss, I know what you are going through, and I wish you the best for the hard process you are undergoing. May you find peace soon.

It's funny you should say that. After my grandma died in April 2005, my mom and I saw more big yellow Painted Lady butterflies that summer than we ever did before. The same thing happened in summer 2006, and even this past summer, which was really odd because of all the terribly harsh weather we had here in Denver all winter- not conducive for caterpillar larvae at all! What is even stranger is, we don't just spot them- they tend to hover around us or follow us around. We like to believe it's Grandma, come back to check on us...

Butterflies are a sign of transmutation/change, dance of joy/life is a dance not to be taken too seriously, freedom, and a symbol of the soul.

I think this pretty much applies to a funeral. Sorry about your loss.

butterflies symbolize the transformation of the soul. it is a message from your mother that she is happy, and that you should be, too. take this as a message from her that you should be comforted and that she is alright. some believe that she will be reborn, but others believe that she will soon enter heaven- and that this is her last good-bye for the time-being.
