Ideas about which way a bathtub will drain have also been cited for giving the direction water circulates when you flush a toilet. This is surely nonsense. In this case, the water rotates in the direction in which the pipe points, that carries the water from the tank to the bowl

it is an incorrect belief to think that toilets flush differently whether you are in the north or south.

i just flushed my toilet here in canada and it went down clockwise. the sink went down couterclockwise.

the coriolis effect if far too small to affect things like a sink or toilet. i mean see how fast that water circles down the drain? like maybe 15-20 times a minute? roughly? now compare that to the rotation rate of earth, once in 24 hours.... yeah the coriolis effect affects large things like weather patterns, but not toilets.

There will be a very small tendency in favour of this happening but on the scale of a toilet or a bath, other (possibly also very small) factors will probably dominate in initiating the spin direction so you will not be able to make a consistent observation.

Look at the low pressure areas in the US and Australia and they will be opposite. In the US low pressure rotates counter clockwise.

The Coriolis Effect doesn't apply to toilets.
