Almost everyone will agree with the question, "are you basically a good person?" I've heard that even criminals plotting their next crime think of themselves as basically good.
This tells me that if we're free to make up our own standard for good, then we will always set that standard so that we fit within it. It is a beautiful example of our human capacity for self deception.
A good person does the right thing for the right reason. Mostly we do our good deeds for self praise and for the imagined praise of others. Sometimes we do the right thing because we fear the consequences of doing wrong. Neither rewards nor fear are the right reasons. Most if not all of the good deeds I do are because of love of praise or fear of consequences.
But the right reason is the conviction that the universe contains a moral authority that we ought to obey, i.e.God, and that moral authority cares how we behave. The universe is on the side of justice - Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr

No, because I have not been tested yet. A simple act of helping without taking any personal risk doesn't guarantee goodness. A millionaire just gave a thousand dollars to the homeless, is he a good person? A hungry beggar just steal aloaf of bread in the supermarket, is he a bad person? Sometimes the thin line between good and bad is very hard to define.

If good means thinking first about others than about myself. Or trying not to hurt feelings, which we all do sometimes by nicely explaining to others their mistake and how to avoid repeating it. Or if it means questioning whether we could do much more for others in need. Or patiently listening to others (family most) complain as they seem unappreciative of things we do for them even when we're exhausted, in great need of rest, not feeling comfortable or well physically. Wanting to always go the extra mile, and not seeing any sign of aknowledgement from the other persons. Or wanting to inform others of all and everything we come to know which could contribute to their well being regarding scientific advancement, new or existing government laws, new things in the community. Etc. etc., than I guess I might be considered good.

Good question.
No.
I don't think that I'm a good or bad person.
Sometimes I do things that some people consider good or 'moral', other times I do things that some people classify as bad or naughty.
My idea of 'morality' may not be aligned with your views of what is right or wrong, so to attempt to define myself as good based on those standards (yours or anyone else's) would be futile.

I used to be a better person than I am today. Where I feel I have failed is within my loss of faith in the goodness of humanity.

Yep...not perfect, but I contribute my assistance to different groups that provide items to families that augment their quality of nutrition. I contribute energy that results in two classes in an elementary school that is attended mostly by students that live in homes in poverty levels. We provide class materials, pens, pencils notebooks, paper, crayons, finger paints, age appropriate books, new clothes, toiletry articles, age appropriate literature that outlines the absolute possibility for any of them to be scholastic achievers. Anyway, my reason for my participation in these programs is really a selfish one. When I help these folks, it gives me a feeling of satisfaction.

A lot of the time...but there are times, I'm sure, that I am not a very good person. It also depends on your definition of a good person...but I'm pretty sure that I fit the "qualifications" sometimes. ^_^
