I am tired of bush saying "Give me something I can sign" when what he means is give me what I want, and the democrats caving to him. Its not that Bush can't sign the bill it's that he won;t, why don't the democrats in congress stand up to him? I know I would feel alot better about them if they did and I expect most republicans, (or at least the ones that aren't militant O'Reilly's republicans) would have more respect for them if they did.

There's still a balance of power in the government, as the founders intended. Even though Democrats have a majority in Congress, they can't dictate to the president. And keep in mind, the majority is new, and not very large. If the Democrats spend their time in pointless confrontational politics, little will get accomplished and the American people will quickly lose patience. The Democrats are playing a clever strategy of maintaining constant, subtle pressure from a lot of different angles. Over the next year and a half, they will enjoy more political victories while positioning themselves to win further gains in the next election. And that's the real prize. With a solid majority in both houses and a Democratic President, Democrats will have a real opportunity to shape policy. Hang in there. This is a long-term process.

'Standing up" to Bush would require they take a united stand on something. Anything

Just prior to winning the congress and becoming the speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi said of Bush: "This man is irrational"
After the election, she was quick to announce "The President is someone we can work with"
Soon after that she said: "I don't know what's wrong with this man, doesn't he know WE are in charge of the country now?"
Then she went about the business of the democratic congress.
She told Murtha, thanks for humiliating yourself for the election but no, you don't get to chair any committees, you nut case. When Jefferson had his freezer searched she said: Dude, you're outta here.
When the democratic caucus said: We have to get to work on some serious legislation before the first 100 days are up. She said: I'm going to Syria, and I don't care who doesn't like it. While I'm gone, if you manage anything with the minimum wage, leave American Samoa alone, I have business there.

Since then, as the neo-cons predicted, the democratic party took the rope they were given and hung themselves with it.

The president, the guy they said was the dumbest man in America, out-maneuvered them at every turn. Now that the election campaigns are fired up, they are so fractionalized, they had to go on vacation.

Stand up???? Don't hold your breath. If I were a Democrat, I would be just as angry as you are.

Democrats have been bashing Mr. Bush, relentlessly, for six years. Where have you been? Their criticism has been outlandish and totally unreasonable. The Dems go out of their way to do the opposite of what Mr. Bush wants...when it is a conservative issue. When Mr. Bush does something liberal, the Dems criticize more then try to take credit.
The politicians running the Democrat party have learned to be sleazy from the master of sleaze; Bill Clinton.

Okay what would they do if they stood up to him ?America needs persons to stand up for what they believe. Its called morals and ethics and protection for the rights under the constitution. What about you and I stand up for what we believe in and stop thinking some one else will do this for us like a democrat. Once the words WE THE PEOPLE were powerful words used on documents as we were the force of this government. So now why is everyone crying because they don't want to be involved. It might take an effort.on our part to make credible decisions instead of just allowing persons to take our power of elections and misuse it.

There are Republicans in Congress, or haven't you noticed? They are the ones that refuse to vote for the bills that do stand up to Bush. Pay attention, you might actually (dare I say it...well okay...here goes) LEARN something.

Quite frankly I don't think the Democrats can stand up to anyone, and they haven't a clue how to reach Bush on what needs to be done. Wimpy, Wimpy, Wimpy = Democrats.

In my humble opinion.

It is embarrassing, they were given a clear mandate in 2006. There should be a change in direction in Iraq and bush jr and dicky should be impeached by now.

If they woud remove the pork from the bills they are trying to get, they're success ratio would go up at least 80%.

It's quite obvious to me that democrats don't seem to like confrontation - either with the terrorists or the president.
