Hello from New Orleans. I have a 2000 Chevy Tracker 2.0/4 cyl. The engine is leaking oil from a cracked piece just below and in front of the cover on top of the engine. Directly behind the belt wheels. What is that part? I have been told that it's the cam cover, timing belt cover, and all sorts of things. I don't no who to believe. Help! I'm a self employed painter and I'm about to lose a fortune if I don't get it fixed soon.

The answers I got were from mechanics you Internet coward.

Now...it is actually bolted to the top cover (cam?), but it's on the front side of the engine. No wires or anything. Just an aluminum piece.

Can you give a little more description of the part, like size and colour? Does it have any hoses or wiring attached? Make sure, too, that the oil actually coming out of that spot, and not further up and simply dripping down.

Go talk to the guy at the autoparts store. He should be able to help you with identifying the part.
