Did any of you conceive when you were still breastfeeding? And if so, was it before or after you had your first period after giving birth?

Yep, twice now in fact.

My oldest son was 16 months old, and still nursing frequently (both day and night) when we conceived my daughter. I had had 4 periods.

My daughter was 18 months old, and night-weaned though still nursing during the day when we conceived our younger son. I had only had 1 period between her birth and conception.

After I had my first daughter I was sure I wanted another baby right away-she was such a sweet angel! I got my first period while breastfeeding her at about 8 months, then we were pregnant right away (planned) when my first daughter was 9 months old and I was still breastfeeding. Within a week she was weaned so it was no big deal-we were both ready anyway. I am 5'8" tall and weigh 115 pounds about when not pregnant and get up to 160 pounds when pregnant so I knew I could not sustain both feeding and being pregnant at the same time safely. I now have 4 children in all ages 5 1/2, 4, 2, and 3 months and breastfed the rest for about 10 months each so far after my first daughter.

Hi there! Yes I conceived twice while still breastfeeding. Although it helps, Breastfeeding does not guarantee you will not conceive. I conceived after my middle child and my youngest child. I was breast feeding but had already gotten my first pp period. Which for me wasn't until about a year after I gave birth. Both pregnancies ended in miscarriage but that is more than likely due to my fertility issues NOT that I was breast feeding. HTH! Good Luck!

Just an alternative response, I didn’t get my first postpartum period until I dropped to two sessions a day when my first was 16 months. We started trying for our second when #1 was 24 months. I stopped nursing entirely at 30 months and got pregnant the very next month. There’s no right answer, it just depends on your body.

Hey girly! It's me!! "D"!!! Don't worry. It looks like most of these mommies had their first period around this time...when their child was 8mos...so you'll probably get your's soon and then get prego right after that! Remember what I always tell you...God does things for a reason. Enjoy your munchkin man and don't be bummed. Love ya!

My mom was breastfeeding me and on birth control when she got pregnant with my sister. My sister and I are only 15 months apart.

I'm currently nursing and on the mini pill and hoping the same doesn't happen to me!

I have been breastfeeding one year and haven't got my period yet.
We have been trying to get pregnant for a few months now, but no luck yet!

I didn't, but my very good friend did, and it was after she got her first period. She continued to breastfeed until she was about 9 months pregnant. I don't know how she did it, but she did!
