I read it was, what time would be the best to look at the night if its clear?

Yes--the Perseids are due Aug 12th.

Aug 12th will be a New Moon and should make for great viewing.

The Perseid meteor shower is coming then, and things should be best after midnight. By the way, it's a meteor shower and not a meteorite shower. Meteorites are space rocks that hit the ground while meteors are usually chunks of ice that evaporate long before they strike the ground.
