This country needs to stop persecuting those that defend it. Those service members never imagined three tours in Iraq when they signed up. The ineffective leadership by the Generals and politicians are the cause of breakdowns by our front line troops. Anyone on a 2nd or later tour of duty there should be immune from prosecution. All too often the word of or enemies are taken over those defending us. That is wrong. Our people deserve more than being put on trial for mental fatigue. They deserve treatment not punishment.

He killed a person and he should serve his time...yet, how is it that a person like OJ Simpson can kill his wife and get away with it, yet a person who risks his life for this country has to go to jail for 15 years....though he should still serve time, the justice system in this country is very screwed up...
My heart aches for the Marine and his family as well as the Iraqi and their family.

Didn't he rape and murder unarmed Iraqi civilians. He deserves what he got, a 14 year old girl is not a threat, and either way, rape is inexcusable.
I am not trying to undermine the war or Bush or anything like that. I understand killing insurgents is necessary, but this marine crossed the line. He violated a young girl then killed unarmed nonthreatening civilians. Your heart should ache for them, they had NO PART in this war from either side of it.

One problem with war is that many people die. Often it is innocent civilians, called "collateral damage". In a war there are some lines that must not be crossed and a murder is a murder,, even if it was a marine. It is sad for all concerned.

No sympathy for the victim and their family and loved ones? My opinion is he is still alive. His family can still see and talk to him and he will be out someday. That's more than can be said about his victim. The Iraqi people love and care about their families just as much as Americans do.

War has rules. Murder is not an act of war. It's a personal act of anger or frustration. Sorry to say, it sounds like he broke the law and committed a war crime.

he killed a civilian.
he deserves to be put in jail.
how about you feel sorry for the victims and their families, not the marine.
edit: i just found more info online. and yes, he murdered a man. This wasnt an accident, this wasnt one of the many victims of war, this was pre-planned murder. Just because he's part of the US army doesn't give him the right to kill everyone.

"The Marine is nothing but a mercenary for capitalist-fascist imperialist white supremacy."
Now that's funny.
I feel terrible for the Marine and his family. I guess my thinking is a little warped but I have no pity for anyone over there but our soldiers. I have a million reasons for this, but I will spare you all of that.......
Edit: I was unaware that there was a rape. I do not condone that in ANY way. As far as saying their was no threat due to age, that is not true, children are walking bombs over there, you do not know who you can trust.

Those people who really were in combat have any right to put this Marine down.
I do feel sorry for his family and friends.
Those who think they are so much better than him I suggest you sign up and go there to show them how to do it.
