I think you're talking about the left side cover or sprocket cover where the clutch cable adjuster is. First, back off all your cable adjustments on the cable itself. Make sure the adjust/pusher cam is installed in the correct spline. Take the cap off the cover and back out the adjuster screw. Put your cover on and tighten it. Adjust the screw until it just contacts your clutch pushrod then back it off 1/8 turn. Take out the slack in your cable using the cable adjuster on the cable and at the lever. Go riding.

You have to back off all the adjusters to get the cover on because your new cable isn't stretched out like the old one and you have no freeplay to work with.

Did you change the clutch and remove the right side engine cover?
If so, it's a little difficult to explain how to set up the rotary valve, carb & oil pump.
Do you mean the left cover?
The front cover has to be removed - the rear cover gets installed first.
Purchase a shop manual before they go out of print.
Once they're gone, it's all guess work and hope you can figure stuff out and can find the specifications somewhere.

Why did you take it off? If I remember correctly the engine end of the cable goes into a lever which is part of the clutch cover.

If you can replace a bicycle brake or shift cable, you can replace a motorcle shift cable. The guys at the motorcycle shop are going to laugh at you. We all will laugh at you if you take your bike to the shop for a clutch cable. Please just buy the cable and put it in yourself. In a pinch one time, I actually used a bicycle brake cable for a motorcycle shift cable. If you go that route, $1.99 will get you on the road again.
