There are no direction to kill a Witch.

There have been "witches" murdered within the last 100 years. The Bible was quoted as Native American "Witches" were put to death.

I made a typo and typed 17 instead of 18.

Terry you have asked a question that haunts all of us. The simple fact, or at least for me, is that very superstitious and exhausted monks were forced to copy from copies of the Bible. Errors happened, they were then copied. Why were they forced? Well, my friend, because we all had to believe in, as the hymn goes, "one true God." It makes things so much easier for the ones in charge. It's not quite so easy when everyone thinks for themselves, is it? Good question, though.

Many Christians like using the King James Version, despite its errors and inaccuracies because it sounds more "Biblical." All of those thous and thys make is sound more official, and many churches still like to use them for the poet qualities. Some bits are easier to remember just because of the language, even though people who don't understand Hamlet will have a hard time getting all of the meaning out of the KJV because it's the same sort of language.

Anyway, it's too bad more Christians don't use better translations. For my coursework at an accredited university, we used the NRSV, which is the Scholar's Bible. It has the best translation, and it uses the oldest sources available as well. (If there was any dispute amongst the scholars, it's in the footnotes.)

I also think that some Christians just like that wording because Paganism is gaining in popularity, and it's an excuse to combat it for them.

All translations have problems. It is not just from language to language but also in the same languages over time.
Try translating Modern American English into the language of Chaucer and you will get my meaning.
Ancient Hebrew and Aramaic are very hard to translate even into modern Hebrew. There is an entirely different world view behind them.

Some people believe that the bible is true no matter what it says. If it is ever proven that they were worshipping out of a "wrong" bible, then that throws the entire idea of the bible being correct into question. If that one mistake is there, then what else could be a mistake? It kind of flys in the face of the bible being a book written by a supreme being and holding all of the truths.

That is why people will not accept the translation errors and stick to what their current bible says.

The "Bible" was written thousands of years ago by people with a very limited understanding of science and/or the Creator.
Since then the Bible has been further corrupted by ignorance, greed, and the lust for power over fellow man. I think the basic concepts are still O.K though. Remember that there are many other "Holy Books" out there too.

Well you have to understand there have been so many false translation put out there by people of stature, how can you really know for sure which translation is correct.... When it is so easy to stick with what you have.. When what we have has be proven to be the most correct thus far...................................... I am not saying you are wrong in your statement.... I am just saying that most people can be fooled by names and titles............................. And after what the Catholic Church and its Popes did to the original bible, By removing pages, chapters and entire books from the bible.... Trust is a very hard commodity to come by for anyone just using words................................................................

there are three basic ways to gain and maintain control in any culture and society. these three ways are Religion, Political, Military. in order to maintain power over the people one in power has to keep performing the duties of the area properly. when one does not continue properly then another individual or group will take over.

why do people believe that a book written by man, that is actually a compilation of old scrolls and letters, that describes their personnel experiences with god, to be the ultimate truth and infallible word of an almighty god?

very simply people believe it because most of them are told to from a very young age. they listen to the preacher that their parents listen to. And never worry about finding any truth, as long as they are part of the clique they are happy. They do not worry with any spiritual revelation or connection with their god. they just want to believe that if they go to a building every sunday for the rest of their lives that they will go to heaven.

Unfortunately, I can't even remember hearing ANYTHING about a Witch Burning in the past hundred years - so I think at this point, the point is rather moot ;);););)
