I just took my NY road test for my license. I failed by 5 points. You need 30 points or under to pass and I had 35. One mistake is when I had to parallel park. At first I was too far from the curb. The instructor told me "can you get closer to the curb?" I fixed it and then was fine. He still took 5 points off for that even though I fixed it. Is this fair? My mom wants to file a complaint especially since I'll be starting college soon with most likely no car.

You were not able to prove that you were skilled enough to deserve a driver's license. Practice some more!

You want to complain that it was "unfair" that you failed. I think it would be unfair to the rest of the drivers on the road to give you a license when your skills and abilities are not yet up to par!

Quit trying to blame someone else for your failure!!! Practice and learn to drive correctly!

Sure it's fair. You didn't park close enough on your first try. The fact that you were able to fix it may have meant that you lost fewer points than you would have, but you didn't park within the standards, so of course they'll deduct something.

New York is known for being tough in terms of testing, BTW. Our son didn't pass until his third try.

Lots and lots of people go through all of college without a car. It's not a big deal unless you make it one. Meanwhile, get an adult in the car with you and practice more and more, especially that parking, so that next time you'll nail it.

Sure it's fair. He might have taken off even more if you hadn't been able to fix your parallel parking.

Go take the test again. With a little luck, you'll pass it this time.

Yeah, DMV marks points up for any imperfection while you are driving. My only advice is to practice driving more and re-take the test. At least now you know what to expect, do and avoid.

Maybe fixing it doesn't count. At least you know how close to park now.

Sorry! You flunked the test. You and Mom should get over it.
