Today's custard can't touch it. My fave was lemon frozen custard. There use to be such a line coming out the door (a screen door at that) of the place on a nice summer night.

I also remembered when cream tasted like cream, not watered down milk.

There has been a dairy operating almost my whole life, that is a family owned and operated business. I remember getting wonderful ice cream from their first small store when I was young--my favourite then was the home churned strawberry.

When my own kids were small, they were introduced to this same dairy (much bigger by then) by their grandparents on a few of their many camping trips through Ontario. By that time my favourite had to be the apple pie ice cream--the apple pie was made by the owner from her own apple orchard, and as always the ice cream was all hand churned. And it was STILL family owned and run.

It has been years since I have been able to get up there, but I DO plan on making the trip a few more times before I am no longer able to appreciate the very best ice cream on the planet.

The dairy is called Laurentian View Ice Cream, on Hwy 17 outside Deep River, Ontario.
