My boyfriend's lip has swollen to about four times it's normal size, and its causing him alot of pain, benedryl and ice seem to have no effect. It came on suddenly, with no warning. There is no rash, his lipp is just really huge, Does anyone have any idea how to bring down the swelling, and what causes it?

fever blister. a type of herpes. not sexual. it is contagious too so be careful. It is cause by allergic reaction, sun, sucking/biting lip. He needs to go to doctoer and get medicine. He should be prescribed acyclovir. He should be able to tell when it will happen next time. It will get a little tingly. When it does get medicine refilled. Wear chapstick also.

Allergies can do this, bug bites can do this, ACE inhibitors like lisinopril can do this, a rare hereditary disease can cause this to happen over and over again.

Better see the doctor.
