I think lefties are just as trusting in a Supreme Being. They're just smart enough not to base it on something as insanely ridiculous as organized religion and its accompanying texts.

Republicans are more likely to believe that God gives dominion over the Earth to man. Democrates worship supersitious believes dogma not supported by science, such as. 1) Darwins theory of evolution, no proof of interaspecies evolution, or how one day land animals became whales. It's all based on faith and superstition. 2) DDT is evil, you can eat the stuff and never get sick, but because of the supertitious beliefe in the scripture of R Calson's book of cancer myths continue to presure 3rd world contries into not using it throgh US trade policy causing millions of people to die from preventable illness every decade. 3) Man is causing the planets tempurature to change to a point that all life will perish, while being unable to explain the reason why the last ice age ended. 4) Creation of human embryos to cure deseases even though all advancement in this area is from adult stemcell research, the sacrament of abortion calls for this disconnect. 5) AIDS is everyones deseaise, years of study have shown this to be false(gays & intervenious drug users are it's victims) but the worship of political correctness dictates we cannot offend(I think that is liberalisims 2nd commandment) I could give you more, but I'm sure by now you get it. Lefties aren't smart enough to know that those things contrary to human nature are doomed to fail, and that the laws of physics are immutable, or that it is not necaccary to reinvent the wheel. As to those on the right they know better than to mess with GOD

You are right that Democrats believe in God just as much as Republicans. The difference is that most Democrats don't feel the need to use their religion as a club against other people, and also don't feel the need to force every American to adhere to their idea of what is moral and what is not. They actually have a grasp on the concept of separation of church and state, and understand that separation doesn't make us a "Godless" country.

The majority of my extended family are Democrats and God knows I can't get ahold of any of them on Sunday mornings, they are usually in church. But when I talk to them during the week, they don't feel the need to refer to God every minute or so to prove they are religious. They LIVE it, not preach it to everyone they see without asking if they want to hear about it first.

No -- actually political party has nothing to do with whether someone believes in god, or whether they are part of a religion.

The difference is that some (some) right-wing folks want to impose their religion on everyone else, whereas left-wing folks believe everyone should make their own choices about which morality and which religion to follow.

Amen to that! I like how Obama said it in his DNC speech "We worship an Awesome God in the Blue States."

It mostly has to do with the "religious right" (so-called) that in 1979 began extensive campaigning for Republican majorities to further conservative ideology.

I pity people who feel some ill-begotten need to abuse other people because they have faith in God. I'll pray for your epiphany.

Sure I believe in God, I just don't believe in the ridiculous fictional texts that have been written on the subject.
