I just recently had a 1 hour glucose test and I didnt have any signs on sickness besides the fact that I threw up after I left the hospital because I hadnt ate anything but after that I was fine. My doctor told me that I have to tke a three hour glucose test now. I dont even know what my first results were. Should I take the three hour test? What is the diet you are on after you get the results? Why is it even neccesary to have if they are just going to force the sugar in my body once again and get more results that are probably going to get 10 times worse! I really dont understand. Please help me:(

1] you don't show 'signs of sickness' necessarily at your one hour glucose tolerance test.
2] you have to take another because you flunked the first one,
which means your blood sugar was elevated.
3] schedule the test ASAP
4] meanwhile, cut out all junk food - no soda, sweets, chips, candy, cake, pie, cookies, etc.
5] there are VERY, very bad compilications in Mom and Baby for gestational diabetes. Watch the diet, exercise every day [ walk, swim, dance, bike ] and test your sugar!

They are most likely doing the 3 hr test because your other test has high blood sugar levels. It just raises a warning flag. The three hour test has more specific results cause they take the blood a few times and compare. I know the stuff they give you to drink is really gross, but you need to do it. If you don't have the test done, you could have serious problems and not know.
I had high levels with the first test and the 3 hour was fine, which is fairly common. You need to do the test for the baby's sake. I'm sure it will be fine, I was so nervous about having to be on a diet while pregnant but like I said the 3 hours was perfect!

not being a medic but a young mother that had gestational diabetes- this is what your doc is checking for. it seems as though the results suspect that you may have this condition- common in pregnancy. the reason why they want to see what your blood sugar is after 3 hrs is to see whether the level goes down with time. diabetes is a condition when the body cant control the rate the blood sugar goes up/ down without help through diet, exercise and possibly drugs. you may get headaches and dizzyness through the diabetes as you get bigger and it affects the size of the baby makign it bigger than needed.
here's what happened to me. went through a similar scenario- saw a dietician and blood specialist. went on a low carb/ sugar diet. (quantity monitoring and carb counting) tested my blood myself several times a day before and after meals. had to give myself insulin shots near the birth to help the baby get through the final few days.
the amazing thing was that as soon as the baby came out the diabetes went away- i mean minutes after the birth the checked my blood and it was normal again. i was told that after pregnancy women have a 50% chance of getting normal diabetes.
ask your doctor - you need to have peace of mind and dont feel like you can ask questions. yes i couldnt gorge on icecream and pizza like other pregnant women but i knew that in the long run having tests and monitorign the process was the best chance that my child would have the best start in life.

Get the Test. Gestational Diabetes (what the test is for) isn't a "sickness" it just means that your body can't handle sugar they way it should. It is caused by your baby sharing your food and body and will usually go away after s/he is born. I had gestational diabetes. And it's not that bad. The had me follow a diet that was low in carbs and sugar (I could still have Ice Cream), I had to test my blood after every meal (a tiny little pin prick) and make sure I got exercise (I swam)
They make you drink the sugar so they can see how your body handles it. Your baby could be getting to much sugar and if untreated you and your baby could have problems.

I had to take the a million hour and the three hour glucose try. My first try got here out adverse (I failed with the help of a million ingredient!!!). as quickly as I got here returned to take my 3 hour, it grew to become into adverse. i do no longer think of they ought to call it a three hour provided that I have been given poked 4 circumstances, no longer 3 and that that they had me stay there for better than 4 hours! :(

i had to get a 3 hour glucose test, because my 1st test results were kinda low. they made me drink this kind of soft drink type liquid. and they drew my blood i think every hour.its not that bad really maybe they just want to make sure that every thing is ok, you know, being extra careful. besides in the end its all for your baby.

it means the first one shows you could have gestational diabetes because your sugar was high.
the 3 hour is over a longer period of time and more conclusive. you really need to take it for your babys sake. and if you are , youll probably have to take insulin and cut out all sugar. good news is itll probably go away after baby is born!
