Your nails are dirty and your body is reacting to the scratching, it's getting infected.

Try putting some cream on instead of scratching, get anti-itch vaginal cream. Wash your hands, or wear gloves and DO NOT scratch.

If the itch doesn't go away, go to the doctor, you might have an infection and need some kind of medical ointment.

Not ever time you itch down there is it a yeast. There are nerves down there that spasm, and make you itch really badly. It comes and goes. Don't use your nails, that could give you a staff infection. If sometimes you slip and do it anyway, wash your hands. The go to your doctor advice works for this problem. There is no way to tell what is wrong with out an exam. When you scratch yourself like that, you are irritating the tissue down there, which,as someone said, is very sensitive. Try not to scratch, if you cant help it, run to the bathroom and use some tissue paper to gently rub it until it isn't a crazy feeling to scratch, then, using a cool wash cloth, hold it to your vagina until the feeling goes away. Toss the wash cloth in the laundry,no sense in sharing.
The best answer is to see your doctor, they have lots of ways to make you all better.

There is a good possibility that you have a yeast infection (which is not an std, girls get it all the time, i got my first one in sixth grade and was still a virgin). The first time you get one you are suppose to go to the doctor just to be sure so just tell your mom that it itches and that you think you have a yeast infection. When you get there go in alone and tell your mom that it just makes you uncomfortable for her to be there when the doc is looking "down there" and make SURE you tell the doc you are sexually active that way the doc can do an std screening if they find it necessary.

Scratching is the problem... you are breaking the skin and adding germs to the itch which in turn worsens the problem.

Stop scratching and wash with regular soap as often as possible, your body will heal itself but if you yearn for quicker results see a physician!!

The vaginal skin is similar to the skin inside your mouth. It is sensitive but repairs itself quickly. Please stop scratching yourself with your nails. OUCH!

If your vaginal area itches so badly that you feel the need to scratch with your nails hard enough to make it swell and burn, then you need to get yourself to your OBGYN for a check up. Please schedule an appointment now.

You are rubbing it to the point of inflammation.
Find out why it itches so bad. Fold, hair....
You could try pinching it instead of rubbing.

you mean scratch, not itch. your nails may be irritating or you may have a yeast infection. see your GYN especially if it is repetitive
