I see too many people associate republicans with religion just to be to bash one or the other. Is it possible to be a republican that isn't religious?

No. Don't let uninformed liberals tell you otherwise.

Of course you can be a Republican and not be religious. Many Republicans are not religious. Look at the way they think and the things they do. Much of it is hardly something one would expect a religious person to be doing. The average Republican, like the average Democrat or average anything else is average.... Some are religious and some are not. Be proud of who and what you are and don't let anyone make you change unless you want to.

Being a Republican doesn't automatically make you religious, and being religious doesn't automatically make you a Republican.

Being a Christian, however, means following the teachings of a man who would have been called a liberal wacko by today's Republicans: Long hair and beard, didn't speak English, no job, opposing big business and the established religion of the day, giving out free health care, saving a prostitute and -- here's the part that'll really shock conservatives -- dining with a tax collector.

It is possible to believe in Republican principles without being a evangelical. Republicans only have themselves to blame for allowing those nuts to take over the party. Too bad Republicans no longer believe in traditional Republican principals.

According to left wingers all Conservatives are Republicans, and all Republicans are Bible Thumpers. I'm Conservative and I'm neither Republican or religious. My boyfriend is a Conservative, he IS a Republican, but is in no way religious...in fact, I'm surprised at how little he knows about Christianity and the Bible...

I am Republican and I am not a member of a Abrahamic monotheistic religion (Christian, Jewish, Muslim). I do have my religious beliefs, but they based on the Folk religions.

I personally believe that even if you are an Athiest you have your religion, so in that respect the answer would be yes, you must be religious.

You don't have to be religious to be a republican. I believe in God and am part of the catholic church, but I am not practicing right now. So just because you don't subscribe to a particular faith does not believe you can't believe in morality. Which is what the republicans preach.

Yes, it just means that you like something that they believe in but not everything. There some republicans that are extremely liberal and some democrats that are too religious.

A person ca be of any political party without being religious.

The problem is that the majority of the screaming religious crowd happens to belong to the republican party.

It is the pro-theocracy bunch that helps people like Bush gain office.

I think first you need to understand what religious means. It does not mean carrying the Bible around once a week for effect. It does mean following the word of Jesus. Now how many Republicans do that!
